Nineteen Tips To Make a Small Bathroom Look Bigger Without Breaking The Bank!

A well planned bathroom considers and incorporates the needs of the end users. Have you ever been in a crammed bathroom? How comforting does it feel? Bathrooms no matter how small should never feel confining.

So how can you make a small bathroom look beautiful and bigger without breaking the bank? Here are 19 tips to help you. Please note you don’t have to do them all, just select the ones that would apply to your needs and of course budget…

TIP #1 – Keep everything the same color and tone.

This is one scenario where contrast is discouraged. Contrasts could create invisible lines that break up the space making it feel portioned and crammed. See picture below of a small bathroom using same color and tone to create the illusion of a big and beautiful bathroom.

Tip # 2 – Use soft neutral colors.

Softer neutral colors could make a bathroom feel open and bright. Try colors such as beige, gray, white, yellow or blue. Don’t be afraid to mix and match paint colors. Not all whites, blues or yellows are solid colors. Have you seen Benjamin Moore’s Linen white paint? It has a yellow and beige undertone, and yes they classify it as white.

TIP #3 – Paint the ceiling a lighter shade or the same color as the walls.

Ceilings normally look darker than walls, even when painted with the same exact paint. To overcome this challenge, go with a shade a bit lighter. Darker colors make a ceiling appear smaller and a lighter color creates the illusion of taller ceilings.

TIP #4 – Tile the shower all the way up to the ceiling.

This is an insider home designer tip used by experts to elongate a small bathroom. Be sure to match the wall, floor tiles and grout. All the small details matters especially in small bathrooms. Something as small as the wrong grout color could make the difference between a clean and tidy bathroom or a messy space. IMG_9888

TIP #5 – Blend the tile and wall color.

Avoid using different colors and patterns, as this would make the shower appear to be a separate area in the bathroom.
